We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our 13 students who have completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Assessed Expedition.
Following their Silver practice expedition earlier in the year, students returned to their assessed expedition with increased confidence and a stronger understanding of what is required to succeed at this level. The experience gained during their practice expedition enabled them to refine their navigation skills, improve their preparation and develop greater independence when working as part of a team.
Throughout the assessed expedition, students demonstrated a high level of maturity and commitment. They took greater ownership of their journey, making decisions together, adapting to challenges and supporting each other throughout the expedition. From managing equipment and campsite responsibilities to navigating their routes, students showed that they had developed the skills and confidence needed to complete the challenge successfully.
As part of the expedition section of their Silver Award, students completed an expedition aim linked to their chosen topic. Each team worked together to plan their investigation, gather relevant information and record evidence throughout their expedition. On completion, students presented their findings, explaining their aim, the approach they had taken, the evidence they collected and the conclusions they reached. Their presentations highlighted the teamwork, organisation and communication skills they had developed throughout the process.
Students also completed an expedition debrief, allowing them to reflect on their overall experience from preparation through to completion. They considered the challenges they encountered, how effectively they worked together and the personal skills they had developed. Their reflections demonstrated a clear understanding of how the expedition had helped them become more confident, adaptable and self-sufficient individuals.
Staff were extremely impressed by the progress students made between their practice and assessed expeditions. The determination, positive attitude and willingness to learn from each experience were evident throughout their DofE journey, and all 13 students should be incredibly proud of their achievement.
Completing the Silver assessed expedition is a significant milestone and reflects the dedication students have shown to the programme. We would like to congratulate all participants and thank staff and parents/carers for their continued support in helping students access these valuable opportunities for personal development.
