Students recently attended an NHS Careers Insight Day at Queen’s Hospital, organised by Youth Careers and supported by volunteers from Oracle Health.
The day gave students an insight into the wide range of careers available within healthcare, including midwifery, theatre nursing, infection prevention and charity work. Through a series of interactive sessions, students explored different career pathways, heard first-hand experiences from healthcare professionals, and took part in practical activities using specialist equipment and training mannequins.
Highlights included learning about life in an operating theatre, seeing a maternity demonstration, testing handwashing techniques under UV light, and visiting a laboratory to discover how blood samples are used to diagnose and guide patient care.
Students described the day as “interesting and insightful into medical careers”, with many highlighting the interactive sessions and laboratory activities as particularly memorable.
A huge thank you to Youth Careers, Oracle Health, and all the volunteers who gave up their time to inspire our students.
