PURPOSE, VISION AND ETHOS

The new Beal Sixth Form is the amalgamation of two existing excellent Sixth Form provisions within the Beacon Multi-Academy Trust: Beal High School Sixth Form and The Forest Academy Sixth Form. BSF (the new Beal Sixth Form) will provide Post 16 education that is fit for purpose for the 21st century, meeting the needs of the students at Beal High School and the Forest Academy by preparing them for future success on suitable pathways for progression – whether university, apprenticeships or employment. BSF is an outward looking, vibrant and innovative learning environment that will continue to welcome applications from students from other schools.

BSF will offer a curriculum that is unique in its breadth and approach in the local area. Beal Sixth Form is founded on the belief that young people’s needs are best met by a broad curriculum offer allowing students to fulfil their potential in their chosen specialisms. Beal Sixth Form will build upon its “Outstanding” Ofsted judgement by drawing upon the wealth and depth of expertise from both Beal High School and The Forest Academy. BSF is a comprehensive provision aiming to meet the progression needs of 90% of Beal High School and The Forest Academy students. Beal Sixth Form will educate 16-19 year olds to prepare them for further study and work in the 21st century.

OUR COMMITMENT

  • Beal Sixth Form will enter all students for AS exams at the end of Year 12. AS exams are an excellent way of assessing student progress at the mid-point of their A Level study.  These exams provide students and teachers with information about how they are progressing, they can use this information to make decisions about their future study, and career plans. Independently assessed AS exams also motivate students to work hard in Year 12 and learn the first year A Level content more deeply, leading to better outcomes at the end of the second year of the course.
  • Beal Sixth Form will offer a three Year Sixth Form Level 2 Pathway. Not all students are ready to embark on Level 3 A’ Level and BTEC courses at the end of their GCSE exams.  Some students need an extra year of study to refine their skills and be ready for those courses and Beal Sixth Form’s Level 2 Pathway provides this room for personal development.
  • Beal Sixth Form will offer both A Level and BTEC qualifications that can be studied in isolation or in combination. Students have different needs, different interests and different future progression plans and this approach allows us to offer as broad a range of choices possible.
  • Beal Sixth Form will offer the majority of students 4 subjects in Year 12. Students should keep their options for future study and work open for as long as possible – young people change their minds!

AT BEAL SIXTH FORM

Beal Sixth Form students gain entry to some of the country’s leading universities, for example, UCL, Kings, Warwick, Nottingham and York.  In London, Queen Mary’s and Brunel remain popular choices and further afield, Birmingham, Durham, Manchester, Southampton, York and Loughborough. Our most able students have gained places at Cambridge University to study Medicine, English Literature, Economics, Law, History, Chinese Studies, PPS (Politics, Psychology and Sociology) and Theology.  They have gone to Oxford University to study Law, Economics & Management and English Literature. Additionally, we have an excellent record of success with Medicine and Dentistry applications, with students securing places at Imperial College London, Manchester University, UCL, Kings College London, Queen Mary University, St Georges, Sussex University, Southampton University and of course, Cambridge.  We offer a thorough support package for those students and our preparation for High Education has been described as ‘exemplary. This year over 200 students had successfully completed their University applications six weeks before the official deadline date.

The outstanding performance of our students in the Sixth Form does not happen without a lot of hard work:  Students are set high target grades and must work hard to achieve them; teachers work hard to deliver interesting courses and to support their students; the Sixth Form team and Leadership Team in the school are experienced in leading success and we are continually looking at how to improve the performance of our students by working with national organisations aimed at raising Sixth Form achievement.

As a student you can trust that you will enjoy an outstanding education at Beal High School Sixth Form enhanced by supportive and experienced staff.  As a parent/carer you can be assured that the students will be given expert teaching, advice and guidance for future success.
